Over 200,000 comments were sent to Colorado Governor Bill Ritter and the Obama Administration asking for protection of Colorado’s national forest roadless areas. This call was echoed in Washington, DC today, as Senator Maria Cantwell (D-WA) and Representative Jay Inslee (D-WA) introduced bipartisan legislation, supported by 25 senators and 150 House members, to codify the 2001 Roadless Rule.

The “Don’t Sell Colorado Short” Road Show is making its final stops on the Western Slope, Tuesday Sept. 22, in Vail and Breckenridge before heading back to the Front Range with stops Thursday at the REI in Denver, Friday in Golden, and Saturday at the REI Boulder store.

The journey across the Western Slope left Durango last Monday with stops in Ridgway, Gunnison, Crested Butte, Paonia, Grand Junction, Loma, Carbondale, Aspen, Basalt and Glenwood Springs.

Everywhere we stopped people had stories to tell, and experiences to share, about why they love Colorado and how our amazing backcountry forests contribute to that quality of life.

Coloradans understand that our roadless National Forests deserve to managed to high standards, and not with weaker protections than those in other states. In fact, in every comment period on the management of roadless National Forests, Coloradans have overwhelmingly favored the strong protections of the 2001 Roadless Area Conservation Rule.

Young and old, from every background, our intrepid road team has found this out again–Coloradans love our roadless backcountry forests.
